A number of oral history institutions worldwide use different forms to gain, in writing, narrator consent to be interviewed and for using the interview in publishing, online, transcribing and other uses. This form is a sample of one that has been used by Columbia's oral historians in the past. PLEASE NOTE: This form in no way constitutes legal advice. You should consult your instructor, department or other institutional authority when drafting your oral history consent agreement form.
The standard Deed of Gift agreement is used when institutions accept a donation of a single oral history or a collection of multiple oral histories. Typically, the Deed of Gift addresses issues of interview use, copyright transfer if desired, institutional obligations to the materials and assures that the donor has the right to make the donation to the institution.
